For Sale: Whittier Mid Century

Whittier Mid Century Home for Sale

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of listing my really good friend’s, DJ Sureshot, home for sale.  I thought I’d share the property with you with the aspirations that maybe you or your friends’ might be inspired to purchase.  Otherwise, check out his amazing Mid Century smart home in Whittier and all it’s amazing digs.

Here are a few cool facts about the home:

Palmer and Krisel was an architecture firm run by Dan Palmer and William Krisel. Together, they designed many modern tract homes for the Alexander Building Company, a Southern California homebuilder. P&Ks were built all over Southern California from North Hills in the San Fernando Valley, to Palm Springs in the East, and South in La Jolla. Several neighborhoods were built in Orange County in Anaheim, Fullerton, and Placentia. Architecture

Most of the Orange County Palmer and Krisel modern homes were built in the 1950s. Like many modern architects of the time, they had simplified house plans but changed the orientation of the homes and garages to give the neighborhoods a varied appearance from the curb, even when most of the homes were very similar inside. The footprints are rectangular, featuring clerestory windows at the gable ends.

Inside you’ll find a great room lit by full-height glass windows. Most plans also a unique “light shelf” which allows for indirect uplighting. Another unique interior trait to the P&Ks are open beam ceilings. The Whittier models tongue and groove ceilings in most rooms. The floor plans are very efficient and there is very little wasted space. The bathrooms are small, but that allows even modest renovation budgets to produce spectacular results.
